O'Brien Boat Launch Update

Text from an email dated 7/1/12 from David L. Clute to Mike Rancour

Hi Mike,
The update is no progress on the engineering design side as the engineer is on other priority projects. Keep checking back thouh as I might have some forward progress to report at some point.

Thanks, Dave

Dave

Notes from a discussion Mike Rancour had with Wade Miller on 2/15/13.

"The property has been acquired and demolition of existing structures is complete. A requisition for the engineering has been submitted. The ramp is being prioritized ahead of parking. The near term goal is to have a minimally functional ramp operational by the 2013 fishing opener. This is subject to weather conditions. Other goals are to award a bid by July 2013 and to complete the site by the fall of 2013"

Text from an email dated 7/2/12 from David L. Clute to George Chuba

Morning George,

The Land and Minerals Division of the DNR did make the land purchase from a willing seller for a Public Water Access on O’Brien Lake. At this time there are plans going forward for the removal of the improvements on the property. This demolition will likely take place this fall sometime Sept-Oct. The engineering and design of the site has not started and isn’t expected to start this season as the engineering staff is very backed up with projects in addition to their responses regarding the recent flooding rains. There is only a very slight chance that a small gravelled lot with a boat ramp and dock will be in by this October, otherwise look for initial site work to begin next year.

It is worth noting that the fines for violations of the aquatic invasive species laws have doubled as of July 1, 2012. In addition the entire AIS program is expanding with portable boat wash stations, more watercraft inspectors and training for even more volunteer inspectors. The efforts are also increasing in advertisement, signing and education. All this should result in a high public awareness and a great reduction in the spread of aquatic invasive species.

Thanks for checking in. Let me know when you need the next update.

Dave

Text from an email dated 3/2/12 from David L. Clute to George Chuba

Morning George,

There has been an offer made to a willing seller, and he has accepted the offer. This will eventually lead to the design and construction of a public water access on Lake O’Brien. There is currently a cabin on the site that needs to be either sold and moved off site or demolished on site. That has not yet happened. So, although we have a site it won’t be ready for use for this spring or summer. Thanks for checking, I hope you will notice some on-site progress this year

Thanks, Dave

Mike, Finally got a message back from Lands office. They are working on assigning an appraiser early this summer. Should have a propsal this summer sometime. We'll just have to wait for that to transpire. Keep in touch.

Lowell.

Thanks.

Hi, Mike, Thanks for staying in touch. Summer is great, not enough walleye (but I always say that!).

The only news is that the parcel of land were are considering is now in our Lands office pending an appraisal assignment.

Once the appraisal is completed and reviewed we will be making a offer. That should be sometime this summer.

Anticipating a sale I would say it would be possible to see some sort of development on the site summer or fall of 2010. But don't hold us to that. It just takes time these things. And if the appraisal isn't accepted we go back to the drawing board on another site and start over.

Hope this one works out. Later.

Lowell

Our efforts to secure a property continue but have had a bit of a set-back.

We are still working with several landowners favorable to our efforts.

This access is important to us and we will continue to work towards a goal of a public water access site on O'Brien.

Thanks.

Nothing new to report

I have called several Realtors, talked to several other of your neighbors regarding any land for sale.

We are in a holding pattern on the development of the Forestry Trust Fund Land. Hoping something breaks loose soon. We are ready and willing to move ahead with purchasing a suitable site for an access to O'Brien. Thanks.

Here is the latest information for your lake association regarding the proposed public water access on B'Brien Lake.

The appraisal of the state trust fund land was completed this winter. We are reviewing that figure and making a determination regarding the amount.

Our engineering department has begun preliminary design.

After the cost review is completed we should be ready to proceed. Movement on a site for purchase and development should follow this early summmer. Our goal (don't hold us to it, though) would be completion in 2006.

Call if you have questions. Enjoy the summer.
