General Meeting September 1, 2007

The Potluck began promptly at noon.
At approximately 12:55 P.M. the business meeting began.

Board members in attendance were Mike Rancour, Mike Flynn, Dan Radunz, Loyal Meech, Kathy Royce, and George Chuba. Absent was Paul Dorweiler. Bob Mattson joined us later in the meeting.

Attendance was 43.

Mike Flynn introduced the guest speaker Connie Isermann from the Brainerd DNR.

Connie gave a presentation on Evasive Aquatic Species.
Connie distributed pamphlets and explained these species were hard to eradicate.
1. Eurasian Water Milfoil (recently found in Kimball Lake)causes a dense canopy that takes over a lake
2. Zebra Mussels are filter filters.
3. Purple Loosestrife
4. Curly Leaf Pond Weed
5. Spiny Water Flea

There were no new members to introduce.

There was no Treasurer’s Report available.

Loyal Meech read the minutes of the July 9, 2007 meeting. A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the minutes as read. The minutes for past meetings are posted on the web site.

The following were elected as Officers.

Co-chair on O’Brien: Mike Flynn
Secretary: Loyal Meech
Board Member O’Brien: Bob Mattson
Board Member Goodrich: Kathy Royce

Old Business:

No Wake Zone on O’Brien
The necessary papers have been filed. Hopefully next year the buoy will be out.

Use of the American Legion facilities
A letter and card were circulated and given to the Legion thanking them for the use of their facility.

Lake Vegetation

John Studer handed out information and gave an update on his committee’s findings on the weed growth in Lake O’Brien. John indicated there was a firm which did weed analysis free of charge. Any analysis must be done in during the fall season. Application of chemicals and such must be done in the spring. a motion to do an analysis of the weed growth in both lakes was made, seconded and approved. A recent sample of weeds from O'Brien was identified by the DNR as 'Illinois Pondweed'.

Beaver Trapping
Paul Krueger on behalf of Marty Peterson thanked everyone involved in the trapping of 11 beavers.

New Business

Lake O’Brien boat launch

The launch will be open as follows:
Sunday, September 2, 2007 from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M
Saturday, September 22, 2007 from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M.

George Chuba volunteered to help at the launch on 9/2
Bob Mattson volunteered to help on 9/22

Road Washing and Weed Growth between the lake
There was a discussion of the weed growth and how it impairs visibility for drivers of cars.

Intersection Control for Wood Dr/Bonnie Lakes Road
A notation was made that this is the only intersection in our lakes area after entering Bonnie Lakes Road from County Road 36 which is not controlled by a sign.

The Crosslake Library
Crosswoods Golf Course is holding a Golf Tournament to benefit the library on September 16, 2007. It will be a four person scramble and cost is $25 per person.
